We continue our education series this week discussing body lift surgery and specifically the healing and post operation process. We believe a body lift can improve your quality of life, boost your self-esteem and self-confidence and is a safe procedure that Dr. Casas has performed many times over her 20+ year career as a cosmetic plastic surgeon. Please visit our informational procedure pages on Body Lift, Liposuction, before and after photos and patient testimonials.

We encourage you to take advantage of our expertise in the body lift procedure by setting up an appointment (847-657-6884). Dr. Casas will also highlight the different options (Body Lift, Liposuction, CoolSculpting), their advantages and disadvantages and what would be the optimal solution for you!

Question:

I am 42 years old and recently completed a long-term weight loss program. I’ve been reading about body lift surgery as a way to address all of the extra skin that’s now sitting on my hips, thighs, belly, and arms. In your opinion, what is the key to successful body lift surgery? I’m also concerned about not being able to exercise after surgery. Exercise has become an important part of my daily life, and I’m worried that if I can’t work out, I’ll start to gain the weight back. What is your advice regarding physical activity after body lift surgery?

Answer:

Following dramatic weight loss, many patients experience excess skin and tissue in their upper arms, abdomen, flanks, and thighs. Other common areas of concern are the breasts and/or buttocks, which can appear “deflated” or saggy after weight loss. The key to successful body contouring is to recognize that every individual requires a slightly different treatment plan. While the trouble spots mentioned above affect many patients, they do not necessarily affect every patient the same way, and it is important to seek out an ABPS-certified plastic surgeon who will evaluate and respond to your particular needs and concerns. The best way to address multiple areas of concern is to map out a multi staged treatment plan with your surgeon. You will achieve the best results by developing a long-term, gradual process that works with your time and budget.

Always be sure to check in with your surgeon before beginning any exercise program after surgery. I usually advise my patients to begin walking the day after body lift surgery, but they should not engage in any activities that stress the suture line (such as twisting or bending forward) for the next six weeks.
