Lip Enhancement Considerations
Lips can appear deflated or disproportionate. Sometimes the lip borders (vermillion) are ill defined. Dr. Casas has many years of experience evaluating and treating patients who desire natural lip enhancement.
A non-animal based product called Restylane® is the first and only FDA-approved dermal filler for lip enhancement in patients over 21 years. In a single treatment Dr. Casas and her staff can treat you with Restylane®. The treatment takes about an hour and lasts up to six months. Dr. Casas will help you reach your goals and help you maintain the look that is natural.
Before a Lip Enhancement Treatment
For at least two weeks you will need to avoid eating certain foods (wine, chocolate) and taking medications like aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as Ibuprofen®, Aleve®, Motrin®), or high doses of vitamin E supplements and herbal supplements in general, as these may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
Talk with Dr. Casas and her staff if you have previously suffered from cold sores. After review it may be necessary to pre-treat you with anti viral medication like Acyclovir or Vlatrex.
Treatment
Treatment begins with pre-treatment photos and cleansing of the area. This is followed by topical local anesthesia and sometimes injections to block the sensory nerves to the lip to decrease injection pain. Injection with Restylane® generally takes less than an hour.
