“Is it time to get rid of my ‘double chin’?”
I have a “double chin” in photographs. Would Kybella- Chin Contouring be right for me?
Kybella- Chin Contouring is the first and only FDA approved injectable treatment for submental fat, sometimes referred to as a “double chin”. Treatment with Kybella- Chin Contouring is customized by the physician for an improved chin profile and contoured jawline.
According to a survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), over two thirds of consumers (68%) are bothered by submental fullness. An area that is often resistant to diet, a “double chin” can distract from an otherwise youthful appearance as well as lend a heavier look to the face.
Kybella- Chin Contouring offers a non-surgical, non-invasive solution with little to no downtime. When injected into the submental region, Kybella- Chin Contouring destroys fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells no longer store or accumulate fat, resulting in greater definition to the area. Depending on a patient’s aesthetic goal, two to four treatment sessions may be required. Each in-office treatment is typically 20 – 30 minutes with treatments spaced 30 days apart. The number of injections should be customized by an experienced, well-qualified MD according to the individual’s unique fat distribution and treatment goal. Once the desired effect has been reached, re-treatment is not expected.
The FDA has approved Kybella- Chin Contouring to improve the appearance of moderate to severe fat below the chin only; it has not been determined if Kybella- Chin Contouring is effective outside of the submental region.
Not all patients are good candidates for Kybella- Chin Contouring. Patients who have a high degree of skin laxity and ‘sagginess’ underneath their chin may not receive optimum results, though they may benefit from other procedures that address the need for tightening such as a neck lift.
It is very important to consult a physician who has been trained in the proper use of Kybella.- Chin Contouring To avoid the potential for nerve injury, it should not be injected into lymph nodes or muscles. Kythera, (makers of Kybella- Chin Contouring) launched a national physician faculty education program in June, 2015. Highly trained, experienced physicians serve as MD trainers to other clinicians. Dr. Laurie A. Casas is a Kythera National Faculty Trainer and has completed extensive training herself on the administration and use of Kybella- Chin Contouring!
The most common side effects may include mild short-term swelling, redness and bruising following treatment. Treatment and response always varies patient to patient. As with all procedures, tell your physician about any medical conditions or medications you are currently taking, especially if the medications contain aspirin or are aspirin-related products.
For the majority of patients, downtime was minimal.
Treatment of Kybella- Chin Contouring is linked to high patient satisfaction, with 79% of treated patients reporting post-procedure satisfaction.
